Today’s beyond is about Honoi Fukuhara who is a third-year student and in the boat club. She has never disliked the boat games ever. She was admitted to Ritsumeikan university on a sports referral. However, she had an inferiority complex to the other students who were admitted there on sports referrals. we are closing in on her desire which started as a new captain of the boat club.
A meeting with boats by sweets
“My parents and relatives had played volleyball for a long time, so I started to play volleyball by my mother’s advice when I was a 4th grade in elementary school. But I quit it after one year because I wasn’t good at ball games. After that, I was doing rhythmic gymnastics from a 5th grade in elementary school until a third grade in junior high school by my mother’s recommendation. When I entered at high school, I met with boats.”
“I decided to join sports club, but I wavered in her judgement. Meals after sports are very great, so I wanted to enter in sports club absolutely. Then, I heard that I could eat sweets in the boat club and I went to there. When I rode the boat my senior pulled, I was moved by breeze and scenery on the boat. Finally, I decided to become a member of the boat club.”

She had made good records favorably after joining the club, but she couldn’t finish her last competition at the satisfied score.
It was too much fun because my record was improving smoothly when I began to drive the boat. I was going to participate in national athletic meet and retire in the last year of high school, but I defeated in the preliminary ground. I was very frustrated, so I thought I wanted to be stronger at the university.”
Our victory that our desire grabbed
The life of sports in the University started with desire “I want to be strong more”, but there was some problem except sports.
“I experienced difficulties to get used to live in dormitory without family and close friends. And my friends who plays other sports and entered university by recommendation have great record. On the other hands, I felt an inferiority complex to my record. So, I didn’t want to tell that I entered by recommendation. But I had felt happy even hard practice because environment of practice is good. And, everyone has knowledge of boat more than me, so I thought that I can grow up being here.”
Ms.Fukuhara left the result champion and second place although he was first year in University, but he was not satisfied that results.
“I experienced champion and second place when I was first year in University, but actually, I was happy to be second place more than champion. Originally, the goal was being champion taking on eight (eight people and helmsman) of Ritsumei. But I felt that this is not my power and won by power of senior. So, I didn’t felt contribution to champion. Event that I was second place entered with a senior. The event has to join forces with the senior, so the results of joining forces with the senior, we can leave the results second place.
In addition, it was the first experience of national award, and the senior supported me to the game and told me how to try my best. So, I had strong desire to win for her, and I was very happy to achieve results.”
I want to know more about the fun of BOAT
Ms. Fukuhara has never disliked boat. We had various experiences with her and asked why she liked it.
She said. “I’m tired of it. I wondered why I could continue the boat. And I realized that it was a sport that I decided to do. Up until now, I’ve done what my parents recommend, but I’ve never disliked the pain of having to decide to do the boat myself.
The boat club is the place where I can shine my best in a good environment, where I can do my best with my favorite boat. We asked her about his future goals.
She said. “My goal is to win every match I play. When I was in high school, I had a habit of losing in games, so I was happy even in second place. However, I became embarrassed because I was defeated. I want to be stronger and have the experience of winning. And I want to know more about the fun of the boat and retire.
We are paying attention to Ms. Fukuhara’s success as a captain who supports the club.
